Sander Giesen and his wife have been running their arable farm in Middenmeer, North Holland, since 2009. “We mainly grow seed potatoes, everything is set up for that and it also involves most of the labor. We also have onions, sugar beets and land for the nature association.” From October 2022, Sander will use the QualityGrader. “As a seed potato company, I mainly have a high demand for labor in the winter. We have quite a few clods that need to be seperated in the winter. In any case, there is now and then something wrong with a batch of potatoes, then it normally takes a lot of man hours to make up for that batch.”

Quality

“The QualityGrader does everything in the field of quality. Moreover, this way my labor needs are covered for most of the winter. We grow 30 hectares of seed potatoes. Thanks to the QualityGrader, I can do as much in a day without staff as before with 1 or 2 extra workers. This investment fitted into my future plans. I am very happy that I took the step and enjoy the pleasure it brings me.” As far as installation in the processing line is concerned, Sander says: “Most colleagues first sort their potatoes according to size and then check the batch. I do it the other way around. The QualityGrader is at the beginning of my line. Before the size sorting is done, the potatoes have already been sorted by quality. This has the advantage that I immediately get rid of everything that is not good, such as damage, rot or clods.”
