Daniël Scholtens is a third generation arable farmer in Luttelgeest, Flevoland. “My family has been farming in the Noordoostpolder since 1950. Today I do that on just under 200 hectares of land, of which 50 hectares are intended for consumption – mainly for the French fries industry – and 150 hectares for seed potatoes.” In addition, Daniel has been using two QualityGraders since 2022. “The machines are easy to operate. Everyone can handle them after about 15 minutes. The parameters can still be adjusted while sorting a plot, which is useful because the machine then doesn’t throw too few potatoes from a bad batch or too much out a good party.”

Labor savings

“Previously, we needed 4 workers each season to carry out sorting and proofreading. Problem parties even required more manpower. On average we could read about 80 tons per day. Now we can read and sort 100 tons per day with 2 people. Sometimes even more! The optical sorters therefore save a lot of time and costs. It has made our sorting process considerably more efficient.” About the level of service, Daniël says: “Dijkstra built an installation for us next to the existing bunker sorter. When after a few weeks it turned out that the installation could be improved slightly, Flikweert was quick to adjust it. They even done in the evening so that we could continue during the day.”
