Flikweert Vision Triumphs as Grand Winner of Zeeland Innovation Award Emergo 2022

Flikweert Vision, based in Ouwerkerk, has won the prestigious Zeeland Innovation Award Emergo 2022. During the Contacta on 8 November 2022, the company was awarded both the jury and audience award. As a result, Flikweert Vision may call itself the leading innovation of Zeeland this year, leaving behind the other nominees: Colijn BV from Kloetinge, Omniboost from Terneuzen, Reijnpack from St. Philipsland and VKP Bouw from Kapelle.
Flikweert Vision’s groundbreaking innovation
Flikweert Vision has developed an advanced sorting machine that can sort unwashed potatoes according to their quality. The QualityGrader, as this machine is called, consists of a roller conveyor and a separation unit. Cameras register the potatoes, and smart use of artificial intelligence determines whether a potato meets the set quality standards.
Jury assessment
As in previous years, students from HZ University of Applied Sciences conducted research into the innovations of the nominated companies to provide the expert jury with additional information for their assessment. In addition, the 12-member jury visited all nominated companies to reach a considered final verdict.
The criteria assessed included impact, originality and growth potential. The jury, chaired by Deputy Jo-Annes de Bat, labelled the 2022 winner as demonstrably innovative, sustainable and progressive. ‘Once again, it shows how many wonderful innovations there are in Zeeland. Both the students and the jury enjoyed visiting the five nominees. They are very diverse companies that all deserve the title of winner. This made the choice particularly challenging for the jury. We are proud of the young entrepreneurs of Flikweert Vision, who eventually emerged as winners. A young and dynamic company, which started from their interest and education and became successful so quickly; that deserves a big compliment.’
Audience Award
The final result of the audience award was extremely exciting, with almost 2,000 votes cast. Here, too, Flikweert Vision managed to garner the most votes.
The Zeeland Innovation Prize Emergo
The Zeeland Innovation Prize Emergo was presented for the 19th time. The award includes a partnership with Dockwize, a trophy and eternal glory. The award is co-sponsored by the Province of Zeeland, HZ University of Applied Sciences, Chamber of Commerce, Dockwize, VNO-NCW and Omroep Zeeland.
