Flikweert Vision among 20 most innovative companies in the Netherlands
The Netherlands has a strong connection with potatoes. The Dutch soil, combined with its temperate maritime climate, provides ideal conditions for growing potatoes. Each year, growers harvest around 8 million tonnes of potatoes. The founders of Flikweert Vision Technologies aim to make the agricultural sector more sustainable and automated. They achieve this with their innovation: the QualityGrader. This grader is capable of autonomously sorting unwashed potatoes based on quality.

At the front, the QualityGrader consists of a roller conveyor with a series of cameras above it, and at the back it has a separation mechanism. The roller conveyor presents the potatoes to the cameras in the camera module. Based on the captured images, the QualityGrader uses artificial intelligence to assess whether the potato meets the quality requirements set by the user. If it does not, the potato is removed from the product flow. This machine, combined with advanced software, can be easily integrated into existing sorting systems.

The QualityGrader guarantees accurate assessment and separation of unwashed potatoes. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find motivated workers for the repetitive work involved. This machine allows potato processors and growers to automate labour-intensive quality control. In a time of growing labour shortages, this offers a solution. Moreover, the QualityGrader ensures consistent results. The machine is able to assess every potato with the same precision throughout the day.
